Hamstring tendon harvesting. Reviewing anatomic relationships and avoiding pitfalls.

چکیده
The gracilis and semitendinosus tendons remain popular grafts for many reconstructive procedures, including anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Surgeons who use other grafts for ACL reconstruction should have the hamstring tendon techniques in their arsenal in the event other grafts are unavailable or undesirable. Detailed knowledge of the anatomy of the medial side of the knee is paramount to avoid potential pitfalls and ensure a successful tendon harvest.

Injury to the Infrapatellar Branch of the Saphenous Nerve during ACL Reconstruction with Hamstring Tendon Autograft: A Comparison between Oblique and Vertical Incisions
Background: Injury to the infrapatellar branch of the saphenous nerve (IPBSN) is common after arthroscopic ACLreconstruction with hamstring tendon autograft, as reported in up to 88% of the cases. Due to close relationshipbetween the IPBSN with pes anserine tendons insertion skin incision may sever IPBSN while harvesting gracillis andsemitendinous tendons. As the IPBSN course at the anterior of...

Relationship of Musculotendinous Junction Location to Harvested Semitendinosus and Gracilis Tendon Length
BACKGROUND Harvested hamstring tendon length has received scant attention in published anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction literature, yet length can limit the ability to increase graft diameter by folding the tendon over more than once. Indeed, some ultrashort tendons may be too short to yield a clinically useful graft after being folded over just once. Ultimately, the total length...
متن کاملTendon and fascial structure contributions to knee muscle excursions and knee joint displacement.
BACKGROUND Semitendinosus and gracilis muscles whose tendons are used in surgical reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament maintain their contractile ability, and a limited decrease of hamstring muscles force is observed postoperatively despite important changes. The goal was to quantify the influence of the myofascial structures on excursions and moment arms of knee muscles to attempt ...
متن کاملKnee flexor strength recovery following hamstring tendon harvest for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: a systematic review
The hamstring tendons are an increasingly popular graft choice for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction due to preservation of quadriceps function and the absence of anterior knee pain post-operatively. Two commonly used hamstring grafts are a quadruple strand semitendinosus graft (4ST) and a double strand semitendinosus-double strand gracilis graft (2ST-2G). It has been suggested that con...
